HSE PRIMARY CARE, CHILD AND FAMILY PSYCHOLOGY SERVICE
Advice
A brief telephone advisory service is available to adults for consultation on issues pertaining to themselves or their child. This service is available on the first and third Wednesday of each month in both Carlow and Kilkenny without an appointment.
There are 4 slots available beginning 9.15am in Kilkenny.
These slots fill very quickly and are operated on a first-come-first-served basis. Please call the clinic on the morning of Telephone Clinic to guarantee your slot.
This service is responsible for the provision of services to children and adolescents who present with the following difficulties at the mild to moderate level of concern:
• Behavioural problems
• Anger problems
• Parenting difficulties
• Anxiety
• Adjustment difficulties
• Loss and bereavement
• Emotional regulation problems
• Low self-esteem
• Attachment problems
• Interpersonal relationship problems
The service aim is to support these children and adolescents to improve their psychological health and wellbeing. In addition, a variety of psycho-educational workshops on different topics are offered throughout the year.
Referral to the service can be initiated by GPs, Public Health Nurses, other Psychologists, Schools/National Educational Psychological Service (NEPS), Social Workers, Child Care Workers, Counsellors, Speech and Language Therapists and other health care professionals. Parental consent is required for referral.
The service provides clinic and home based interventions, education/ training and parenting support.
