Kilkenny – Primary Care Child Psychology Telephone Advice Clinic
HOW DO I ACCESS THE TELEPHONE ADVICE CLINIC?
The clinic operates on the 1st & 3rd Wednesday morning of each month between 9.00am and 1.00pm remotely by telephone from the Primary Care Child Psychology Service, Newpark Primary Care Centre, Old Golf Links Rd., Kilkenny.
- To register for a slot, please telephone the Psychology Administrator on 056 7730198 at 9.00am on the morning of the TAC and you will be allocated an appointment time (slots last approximately 30 minutes).
- We offer four slots which operate on a first-come first-served basis (please arrive early to secure a slot as demand is usually high).
- Please note the clinic is for people in the Kilkenny HSE Network 3 catchment area only.
WHAT IS THE TELEPHONE ADVICE CLINIC?
It is a brief advisory service where parents/guardians of young people up to 18 years are offered advice and guidance for common issues related to their children. Adults may also attend for advice in relation to their own issues. No referral is needed.
What we DO in drop-in:
- We speak with adults (over 18 only) in relation to their own or their child’s problems
- We offer advice & guidance around mild issues or advice on what service may be of use for more serious issues
- Examples of types of issues we deal with at the Telephone Advice Clinic include emotional or behavioural issues, parental separation, adjustment difficulties, self-esteem issues, parent-child relationship difficulties etc.
What we DO NOT do at the Telephone Advice Clinic
- The Telephone Advice Clinic is not an emergency service. Anyone very distressed should attend their GP as soon as possible
- We DO NOT speak with any person under 18 year old
- We DO NOT carry out diagnostic assessments (ADHD/educational etc)
- We DO NOT speak with people currently engaged with other HSE psychology teams (CAMHS/ CDNT/Adult Mental Health)
- We DO NOT fast-track anyone into the service (usual waiting lists apply)
