New resource for Youth Mental Health
A new youth mental health project which has been developed by Carlow Primary Care and Child Psychology Service and the Carlow Children and Young Persons Services Committee.
Research has acknowledged that the majority of mental health difficulties emerge in adolescence and early adulthood. Ireland specifically shows high rates of youth mental health difficulties and data indicates that Ireland has a higher prevalence of common mental health difficulties among young people, relative to the rest of the European Union. Mental health knowledge has the potential to reduce incidence, impact, and continuity of mental health difficulties among young people, as well as reduce stigma.
‘That Feeling When …’ is a youth mental health project which has been developed based on these findings. The concept behind this project is to raise awareness of and reduce stigma around a number of common mental health difficulties experienced by adolescents, and to provide tips and strategies on how to improve general health and wellbeing. We have developed a series of short, animated videos, each of which focuses on a different topic related to mental health such as anxiety, stress and low mood. These videos also include tips about using positive coping strategies such as regulation and relaxation exercises.

Carlow Primary Care and Child Psychology Service and the Carlow Children and Young Persons Services Committee hope the videos will provide some really useful information for young people and encourage conversations about mental health.
