The Gaelic Games family at one of Kilkenny’s most successful clubs has just grown a lot bigger. O’Loughlin Gaels, in the heart of the city, has opened its doors to a new group of players.

Gaelic Games for All, an initiative for children with additional needs, starts later this month and, as the title suggests, all are welcome.

Open to boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 17, activities will include non-contact Hurling, Gaelic Football, Rounders and other fun games. O’Loughlin Gaels is the first GAA club in the city to offer this programme but, in the spirit of inclusivity, membership extends well beyond the parish.

“You don’t need to be a member of O’Loughlin Gaels to join and you don’t need to live in St John’s Parish,” says organiser Philip O’Reilly. “Gaelic Games for All is about offering an inclusive, diverse and welcoming environment for everyone. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never played Gaelic Games before, we’ll make sure everybody has fun and is part of a team.”

A large number of volunteers from the cub have completed the relevant training courses, are Garda vetted and are on stand-by to welcome all the new members. Gaelic Games for All will take place in St John’s Park every Monday evening, starting Monday May 12th. Throw in is at 6pm and each session will last around 45 minutes. Parents need to be in attendance at all times.
